Malecon 2000
This boulevard that runs along the banks of the Guayas River for approximately 2 km is one of the favorite places for locals and tourists to hang out. Along the walk you will find little bars and restaurants, gardens and fountains, children's games, representative monuments such as the Hemiciclo de la Ronda (with Simón Bolívar and San Martín as protagonists), the Clock Tower built in Moorish style and a lot, a lot of atmosphere.
The entire area is fenced (it closes at night) and there is a lot of police presence, making it one of the safest places to walk in Guayaquil.
Curiosity: the Hemicycle of the Ronda remembers the event known as the “Interview of Guayaquil”, a meeting between the great leaders of South American independence José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar, which took place in this city in July 1822.
Iguanas park
Although its official name is Parque Seminario, all locals and tourists refer to it as the iguana park. The reason is easy to guess: there are a good number of iguanas around here, big and small, fat and skinny, pretty and less pretty... they roam freely. In addition, in this small park there are tropical plants, a pond, parrots, pigeons and turtles. It is curious to see how, in the heart of the most chaotic city in Ecuador, there is a space where nature is the protagonist.
Formerly this was the most important square of the colonial city and corresponded to the Plaza de Armas, but little remains from those times, beyond the Cathedral which we talk about in the next point.
