Darwin and the Galapagos
13 large islands, 9 medium-sized ones and more than 100 islets make up this archipelago that, if you like animals, will drive you absolutely crazy. It is so unique that even Darwin himself was amazed by the colors when he visited it.
The naturalist arrived in the Galapagos in 1835 aboard the Beagle and soon realized that the animals on the island were different from those he had seen on the “mainland” and thought that perhaps the physical characteristics of the animals could change and adapt to the environment. environment… And bang! The formulation of the Theory of Evolution was already launched.
Tijeretas Pier (San Cristóbal)
Swimming with sea lions in their natural habitat will be one of the best experiences to live in the Galapagos, and our baptism with these friendly mammals was at the Tijeretas Pier (we must admit that we were a little distressed).
To get there, we recommend that you first go to the Interpretation Center, where you will learn more about the formation of these islands and their unique features. And from here follow the path to the Tijeretas viewpoint to enjoy beautiful views. Then all you have to do is go down to the dock and splash, into the water!
If you're lucky you'll swim with sea lions, turtles, marine iguanas and fish, and you'll even witness blue boobies diving like projectiles in pursuit of their prey (their name comes from the way they dive into the water). . Don't forget to bring an aquatic camera to immortalize the moment.
After swimming in Tijeretas you can return to the town along another path making two extra stops: one at Playa Punta Carola where you will also see sea lions and iguanas in abundance, and the second at Playa Mann, where we contemplate a very beautiful sunset
